I once witnessed an art model respond to a harsh critic with a very knowing reflection... "Your judgment of me and your assumption of my character and lack of morality due to my wilingness to present myself naked and vulnerable to inspire the noble work of artists and photographers is in the least, unfair, as you know nothing about me, my life, my ethics, my relationship with the world around me, my family, my spirituality or essentially who I am as a person. You simply project a limited constricted version of your own inner struggle with whatever guilt or shame may have been imposed on you by your upbringing. You compare my outside with your inside and judge me for not conforming to your narrow, dark view of what is prudent. Your judgement says more about you than it does me. I invite you to visit the great museums and churches. Notice the beauty of the human form depicted in art throughout history and ask yourself if those masterworks would exist without the generous courage and vulnerability of the models and muses, just like myself, that were the very human references for great art that unites and raises the spirit of society." I will never forget her!!!

Beautiful! It’s refreshing when someone stands in their dignity with articulate clarity.

It is very important that we meet as nudes. There is a special type of communication that occurs. I have asked this before of my nudist friends and others who understand my query: I gaze at a nude photo and am confronted with an entirely new feeling. It is part sexual, for sure, but there is a level on communion that is intimate beyond my wildest dreams, a connection in the ethereal realm. This is NOT my response to pornography. Does anyone know what the fuck I am talking about?

I know exactly what you're talking about. However, when you try to convey the sublime to socially engineered "normies" they default to their societal programming of nude=desire for copulation. They don't understand that the only way out of such faulty thinking is through. The vast majority of the masses will never take the first liberating step. It's their loss, and I pity them.

Totally agree.

I think the internet has given us the ability to share opinions. Sadly, many people use this extraordinary technology to be idiots and take any excuse to whinge about something they don’t like.

Your comment is directed to the word 'real' in 'real people' with the interpretation that people that are not real are somehow not human.

I would assume, without having seen the comment you refer to, that more probably 'real' is meant in the way of 'realistic', 'every day' or 'common'. That said, artists (mostly) put more in their art than just a nude body for the sake of the nudity and the artist's goal is (mostly) not amending a misformed beauty standard.

I personally do have a issue when the images get mislabeled as 'naturism' or 'nudism' because that it is not.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We don't use terms 'naturism' or 'nudism', because I agree that's not what figurative fine art generally is. Although the natural and authentic exploration of The Embody Project may resonate with those values: https://www.modelsociety.academy/embody-project-book

Last time I checked, I was real... I've been accused of only photographing thin model types, and I suppose that's accurate. It's also what I prefer to shoot. Everyone has their own preferences for whatever their reasons. It would be a pretty dull world if everyone preferred the same exact thing. It's also funny to me that the people who make such accusations have never offered to get in front of my camera! Thanks for your post and thanks for including one of my self-portraits!

I agree w/ your "counter" argument . And it is my experience also that even those considered "beautiful " are very vulnerable to their own and others "judgment". That being said, there is a worthy case to be more inclusive of the full range of "human" nudes bodies.... It takes more empathy and techniques to either "beautifully" or "dramatically" photograph the "non-ideal".

Absolutely! Many of our wonderful photographers are much more inspired by vulnerable reality than idealized beauty. Our approach is to hold the entire spectrum as a coherent celebration of human beauty.

I quite appreciate the full breadth of models you use in your magazines/posts. The fact that there are a mix of body types, ages, and representation of both genders is what makes it interesting further, beyond the creative capture process.

The perfection of beauty, lies in the imperfections of the human condition. We’re not symmetrical, or rather, few of us are truly, and in the representation of purely “perfect” models, I’d say the imagery would be less impressive and somewhat boring.

Not sure if the critique has ever seen say AI “art” where the models are indeed “perfect” and symmetrical, airbrushed and painted colour perfect—it’s not the most appealing sight. It’s fake and the viewer knows it at immediate glance.

I’ve been a subscriber now for a mere week or so, and appreciate the stylistic elements that are portrayed through each of the shoots. Thanks for sharing, look forward to the next one!

Any attitude that separates does damage to our humanity. I've seen some pictures of "stars" in unglamorous conditions that brought out their true beauty.

Example: Someone asked Keira Knightley if she would do a "topless" photo shoot. After some thought she agreed, but gave one condition: that her breasts would never be Photoshopped. The resulting photos are gorgeous. (I don't have time to search for links to them now.)

I'm sure there are photo series showing people who fit "societal beauty standards" interacting in joyous ways with people who don't. That's one way to counteract destructive standards.

Before the pandemic shut things down. I had the privalage to start learning how to shoot nudel models while visitng Warsaw. I love the female body, study it from different angels in different light settings. Sadly have not been able to shoot again. I agree beauty can be found most all nude model work. New to you magazine pageas and look forward to reading more. This is my favorite photograper of nudes, guy lives in France. https://chillphotographie.com/ . Not an adverstisment I just think his work is worth viewing so I share.
