Dear Fellow Art-Lover,
Is nude art obscene?
Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is adorned with hundreds of nude figures. At the time of its creation, The David was placed in the political center of Florence. The cultural significance of these masterpieces elevates the human body to a pedestal akin to the miracle and beauty of creation.
For most of human history, the arts have celebrated the natural beauty of the human form. Yet, in our modern age – especially online – nudity has become synonymous with pornography.
This automatic association, though unfortunate, is understandable. Images of artistic nudity have been exiled from most public spaces. Meanwhile, the majority of nude imagery in today’s culture comes from the porn industry. This leaves people with few wholesome opportunities to explore their natural desire to appreciate human beauty.
Humans have an innate appreciation for beauty, which is deeply rooted in our evolutionary history. This natural tendency has existed across cultures and throughout time. Although this appreciation is woven into the very fabric of our being, it’s often tinged with shame, secrecy, and distortion.
When we first created Model Society, I didn’t anticipate its profound impact on people’s lives.
When people see artistic images of humanity in the context of reverence and respect, they often experience something profoundly healing and transformative – a shame-free experience of human beauty.
We receive a steady stream of messages from supporters and fans telling us these images have helped liberate them from shame. For many, figurative fine art has allowed them to decouple appreciation of human beauty from porn. Many share stories of looking upon the human body (for the first time) with inspiration, wonder, and awe – rather than shame and guilt.
This shift enables people to see themselves and others in a new and refreshing new light.
Instead of dwelling in the gutter as something dirty and wrong, we elevate the beauty of our collective humanity and place it upon a pedestal. Self-esteem and regard for others are clarified and renewed.
Thank you for believing in human beauty.
Enjoy!
